Story Time - A Husband and Wife..

A man feared his wife wasn't hearing as well as she used to and he
thought she might need a hearing aid. Not quite sure how to approach
her, he called the family Doctor to discuss the problem. The Doctor
told him there is a simple informal test the husband could perform to
give the Doctor a better idea about her hearing loss.

Here's what you do," said the Doctor, "stand about 40 feet away from
her, and in a normal conversational speaking tone see if she hears
you.
If not, go to 30 feet, then 20 feet, and s o on until you get a
response."

That evening, the wife is in the kitchen cooking dinner, and he was
in the den. He says to himself, "I'm about 40 feet away, let's see
what happens."
Then in a normal tone he asks, 'Honey, what's for dinner?"

No response.

So the husband moves to closer to the kitchen, about 30 feet from his
wife and repeats, "Honey, what's for dinner?"

Still no response.

Next he moves into the dining room where he is about 20 feet from his

wife and asks, Honey, what's for dinner?"

Again he gets no response so,

He walks up to the kitchen door, about 10 feet away. "Honey, what's
for dinner?"

Again there is no response.

So he walks right up behind her. "Honey, what's for dinner?"

Moral of the story:
The problem may not be with the other one as we always think,
could be very much within us..!

Facts About "Pink Eye"

Conjunctivitis, known as "pink eye", is an inflammation of the thin, transparent membrane covering the inner eyelid and the white part of the eye known as the conjunctiva. Symptoms of this condition can include:
  • redness of the eyes,
  • eye pain,
  • blurred vision,
  • sensitivity to light,
  • burning or itching of the eye,
  • a scratchy feeling in the eye and,
  • a discharge that may be watery or may contain pus.
Conjunctivitis may begin in one eye but often spreads to involve both eyes.
The term pink eye is most commonly used to refer to the infectious (viral or bacterial) type of conjunctivitis, but conjunctivitis may also result from allergic reactions or from chemical irritants such as air pollution, smoke, or noxious fumes. Rarely, underlying chronic medical conditions including systemic lupus erythematosus or rheumatoid arthritis can cause a persistent conjunctivitis. The infectious form of conjunctivitis is very common in children and is highly contagious.
Children and adults who develop infectious pink eye should see a doctor to determine whether antibiotic treatment is necessary. Most cases of infectious pink eye are caused by viruses and will not respond to antibiotic treatment. In these instances, the discharge from the eye is clear and watery and symptoms of a cold may be present. Viral pink eye infections usually last from about seven to ten days.
Bacterial pink eye generally results in a large amount of discharge that is green to yellow in color. This discharge can accumulate at night and make opening the eye difficult in the morning. Bacterial pink eye requires treatment with antibiotic eye drops to help the body remove the bacterial infection, and sometimes oral antibiotics are also given if the infection is causing symptoms in other parts of the body. Antibiotic administration will generally cure the infection in three to five days. Application of warm washcloths to the eye area is effective in removing discharge.
Pink eye is spread through direct contact with infected persons. To reduce the chance of spreading infectious pink eye, those affected should avoid touching the eye area and wash their hands frequently, particularly before applying medications to the eye area. Sharing of towels, washcloths, cosmetics, or eye drops can also spread the infection.

Google to hire 300 engineers in India

Global Internet search giant Google Inc Thursday announced plans to hire 300 people to double its engineering headcount in India and strengthen Hyderabad as its largest cloud computing research and development centre in the world.
The firm plans to recruit 300 engineers in couple of years to increase its presence in India with focus on cloud computing.
Peeyush Ranjan, head of engineering, Google India, told reporters here that 300 engineers were already working in Hyderabad and Bangalore on cloud computing.
Cloud computing is web-based processing, whereby shared resources, software, and information are provided to computers and other devices such as smart phones on demand over the Internet.
Google already has cloud computing centres in Mountain View in California and New York but the Hyderabad centre is the largest in terms of the number of engineers working here.
Google already has 2,000 employees in India and the Hyderabad engineering centre will be core to its efforts to focus on cloud computing, he said.
While the engineering centre in Bangalore is working on cloud computing as well as search, ads, maps and news, the Hyderabad centre is focusing only on cloud computing.
“The work being done in these two centres are global in nature and the technologies they are developing are for the business globally,” he said.
There is an administrative control panel in Bangalore which manages the business of a customer once it is up in clouds.
“India is a great market for cloud computing as it is the most price sensitive. Since cloud computing ensures efficiency and better utilization of resources, small and medium business are excited about it,” he said.
Google has around three million customers in cloud computing globally. About 100,000 businesses in India are already using Google’s cloud computing technologies.

Why do mosquitoes bite some people more than others?

Scientists have identified several proteins found in mosquitoes’ antennae and heads that latch on to chemical markers, or odorants, emitted from our skin. These markers are produced by the natural processes of our bodies and, like neon signs, they let the mosquitoes’ smell center know you’re around (though the process that then guides them to you is not well understood). Flies and mosquitoes share a number of the same genes that dictate production of these odorant-binding proteins, which have specific sites that will catch or bind with certain chemicals in the air. Some scientists suggest that certain characteristics attract mosquitoes, thereby leading us to have more bites than others. Some of the top candidates: the amount of carbon dioxide in the breath, pregnancy, body temperature, alcohol and odorant markers based on blood type.

Blood-type markers are chemicals released by people of a specific blood type – so if someone with AB blood emitted a marker, it would be different than that released by B. One study found persons with Type O blood suffered more mosquito landings because of the odorant markers they emit than any other blood type, making their juices a hot commodity for blood banks, as well as Asian Tiger Mosquitoes, which carry West Nile Virus. Not only were Type O’s more likely to be landed on, but the study found that for any blood type, people who secreted a chemical marker about their blood type through their skin (both blood type and secretor status are determined by genes) were bitten much more than non-secretors; 24 percent in the case of the Type O’s. Other researchers estimate about 15 percent of the population, based on their genes, don’t emit chemical markers of their blood type through their skin and saliva, so something else has to be calling the mosquitoes to them.

Google adds instant preview to search engine

Google has unveiled a new “Instant Previews” feature on its search engine, which the company said will enable users to choose the right search results in a faster way.
“Instant Previews provides a graphic overview of a search result and highlights the most relevant sections, making finding the right page as quick and easy as flipping through a magazine,” Raj Krishnan, a Google product manager, was quoted as saying by Xinhua.
To use the feature, people can click on the “magnifying glass” next to the title of any search result and a visual overview of the page will appear on the right.
The new feature can load preview results in less than one-tenth of a second, while many of today’s websites usually take four or five seconds to load, Krishnan said.
Google said the new feature should be available in more than 40 languages in the next few days.
